Title: Sotheby's Catalogue: The Albert E Wade Collection

Reference: 03101

Description: The auction of the Albert E Wade collection of more than 800 pieces of Ruskin, Moorcroft & Bernard Moore Pottery was held over 2 sessions in 2002. The catalogues contain some wonderful, coloured images displaying the shapes, vibrant colours and stunning glazes of this collection of British Art Pottery. These three potters are unified by a common belief in hand decorating and experimentation. Moorcroft, Ruskin and Bernard Moore had a fascination for the flambe glazes echoing those produced by the Chinese in the late 17th/early 18th century and many pieces in Albert Wade's collection reflect these influences. Many of the Ruskin pieces incorporate the stunning Ruskin glazes and Moorcroft pottery is represented by pieces from William Moorcroft's time at the Macintyre factory where he first produced his characteristic slip trailed pots with naturalistic subjects. Albert Wade had always been a collector. He developed a keen interest in decorative arts and started to collect Art Pottery in the early 1960s, at a time when this was a neglected area. He concentrated on Moorcroft initially and then on to Ruskin and Bernard Moore in the late 60s and early 70s.
