Title: Rorstrand dish by Inger Persson

Reference: 00933

Description: A studio stoneware dish by Inger Persson for Rorstrand, the inside of the dish showing bands of different glazes. Inger Persson was one of the most important swedish designers in the 1960's. She worked for Rörstrand between 1959 and 1971 and again in the 1980's and 90's. This dish was part of the Rorstrand Atelje (Workshop production series) range started in 1961. Painted Rorstrand and designer marks.

Title: Ashtead Pottery

Description: A Jade Green plate by Ashtead pottery in the Gazelle design,(model P6), designed by David Furse. The Ashtead Pottery had a short life, being in business for just 12 years from 1923 to 1935. The factory was in Ashtead, Surrey. It was set up with the aim of providing employment for disabled ex-servicemen The wares produced by the factory were designed by the leading artists of the day including Phoebe Stabler, better known for her work at Poole Pottery. Printed mark on base.

Title: Orrefors Ariel Vase by Edvin Orhstrom

Description: A very fine piece of Orrefors Ariel Glass, "The Girl and the Dove" designed by Edvin Orhstrom. Heavy walled crystal vase, the clear glass internally decorated in the Ariel technique in dark blue. Underside incised Orrefors Ariel 584 O Edvin Orhstrom.

Title: Early Upsala-Ekeby Vase

Description: An early Upsala-Ekeby vase. Upsala-Ekeby started in 1886 and began to move into artisan-based design in 1897. From 1930 it began to hire the artists who were to give Upsala-Ekeby its 1950's-70's design claim to fame. Sadly a decline started in 1973, and by 1978 the company had collapsed and closed down its activities. c. 1920's/30's. Painted mark to base

Title: Rye Pottery Lamp Base

Reference: 01482

Description: A delighful Rye Pottery lamp base, rewired and working. Pottery has been produced in Rye since mediaeval times, but what is now known as Rye Pottery was started at Cadborough near the end of the eighteenth century followed by Bellevue Pottery in the second half of the nineteenth century . After the war the premises were bought by two young sculptors - the brothers Wally and Jack Cole, who renamed the company 'Rye Pottery'. They moved away from the traditional designs and produced high quality majolica in the styles of the fifties. This lamp base is one of the stripe designs from that period. Printed mark to base. c.1959-71.
