Description: A blue chamotte vase by Gunnar Nyland for Rörstrand.
Gunnar Nylund (1904-1997) is best known for his work at Rörstrand. Nylund initially worked for Bing & Gröndahl in Copenhagen before starting his own workshop, Saxbo. He joined Rörstrand in the 1930's and remained with this firm as one of its leading designers until 1958.
In the 1930’s he created graceful, modernist pieces in richly glazed stoneware and sculptures in a rough chamotte ware. After the war he produced work in a more asymmetric, abstract line vein.
In 1959 he became art director at the Nymölle pottery, after a few years he left to work on a freelance basis for Rörstrand.
