Description: A very good example of the wonderful pottery produced by the St Ives Leach Pottery as part of the St Ives Standard Ware Range, which has improved with age. A St Ives Pottery catalogue from the 1940's describes a similar dish as a 'Stewpot with Lugs'.
In 1920 Bernard Leach (1897-1979) and Shoji Hamada, set up a pottery at St Ives in Cornwall.
The pottery was home to a succession of students and apprentices that almost comprise a complete who's who of studio pottery, including Michael Cardew.
The “Standard Ware” range was started in the late 1930's and all members of the pottery, including Bernard and his son’s David & Michael, helped in its production.
Standard Ware continued to be made until Bernard's death it was sold at some of London's stores including Liberty and John Lewis.
